AREA STAFF OFFICER ADMINISTRATION

1. I have not been required to teach any Administration Courses this year,
although I am scheduled to run a course at the Area Multi Weekend in
November this year.

2. In the past Administration Courses were compulsory for advancement, and therefore staffs had a greater knowledge of systems, forms and what
paperwork was required to run a unit effectively.  I am not advocating a return to compulsory attendance of an admin course but I am looking at an updated aide to assist new Administration Officers and Commanding Officers/OIC.

3. This has been a busy year for me as I was tasked with organising the transport for Eastern Area and the administration at Browndown Camp during IFOS.  It was a challenging event, especially when I first arrived but I
survived and enjoyed the whole experience.  The cadets who attended had a wonderful time and did not want to leave the many friends they had met from other Areas.

AREA STAFF OFFICER WRITER /STORES

1. In March of this year I had a very productive meeting with four of the ASO's (Writer/Stores),   Lt Cdr (SCC) Anne Clark RNR and Lt Cdr (SCC) Carole Fletcher MBE RNR.  The changes that I proposed to the syllabus have been agreed and in addition we have now incorporated suggestions from those at the meeting.

2. We are recommending a name change for this specialisation, one that will appeal to the forces recruiters, employment sector and educational bodies.  We feel it is time to move this discipline into the 21st century.

3. We have set up a MSN chat room with only the ASO's, Anne, Carole and I having access.  This enables us to post suggestions, documents and
amendments to the syllabus and where we all have an input.  I feel that this has been the way forward for this specialisation.

4. The amended syllabus will be sent to Mr Fred Cook for his suggestions and approval and then to Director of Training before the end of the year.

5. I am very aware of the time constraints on adult instructors who are often unable to have a week away for a National Course.  I am therefore planning a Basic Instructors course at Scarborough Unit over two weekends in March of next year.

6. If your unit is experiencing any difficulties with administration or you have any queries     reference the Writer/Stores specialisation, please do not
hesitate to contact me.
