All the Eastern Area Events have been well attended throughout the year, with good competition between the Districts, this helps in giving us a good choice of cadets for our selection of teams to the National Competitions.
At National Events we have not had many individual competition winners, although we should mention a young man who had done very little sail boarding had a first in the Sailing Regatta. We have maintained third or fourth overall position on quite a few of the events.
The National Sailing Regatta was a great disappointment with only two confirmed races, unfortunately there was no wind.
There is no National Swimming Competition this year; I have forwarded times from the Area Competition to the SRO. I cannot report at the time of writing how many will be chosen.
The venue for the National Combined Regatta was a definite improvement on the previous few years. Unfortunately too many cadets had to be accommodated in the one area.
Because the event was a one day event I felt it had a knock on affect with the staffing for duties, especially on the Saturday Night (Eastern Area provided their full requirements).
The method of transporting cadets and staff to National Events by road (minibus/coach) seems to be working quite well; I have not had any complaints this year so far.
The old topic of staffing events; it is difficult to get staff for Area and National Events, I would ask Commanding Officers to encourage their young (new) staff to volunteer to work duties to help them gain experience.
