I am pleased to report that two very successful Multi Training Weekends have been held throughout the year along with a Sea Cadet Instructors' Qualifying Course. Both main Multi Training Weekends were held at Beckingham Camp. At the first, over 120 candidates undertook a variety of courses including Instructional Methods, First Aid, Basic Seamanship, Drill, MCD Adult Training, Divisional Skills and Training Officers.
The second weekend in February proved equally as successful. We ran nine different courses, all of which were full. The re-introduction of the Health and Safety Course proved particularly popular and I am pleased to report 100% pass. The Basic Seamanship class had 14 candidates; a large group but thanks to the skills of ASO (Sea) all were successful.
We intend to run a First Lieutenant's Course at the November 2005 training weekend and my thanks to all those who have participated in its inauguration.
The Multi Training Weekends rely heavily on the expertise of SCC Staff and we will always need to recruit Instructors for the future either to take over the courses that are presently run or to teach new courses. If you feel that you have something to offer as a potential Instructor please contact DAO or me so that we can make arrangements for you to look at what happens on these weekends and perhaps join "the team".
My thanks must also go to Luton Unit which again hosted a successful SCIQC in May. Twelve candidates have now qualified. These courses over two weekends have proved to be very popular and it is intended to hold this type of course again in May 2006.
We continually look for those Units who would like to assist at these MTWE by running the Wardroom bar for us: any Unit that is interested please contact the Deputy Area Officer or me. My thanks to those who have run this facility for us this year.
Area courses in Eastern Area are very highly rated by anyone who visits them. This is due to the high standard of instruction and to the hard work of everyone on the administrative and regulating teams. Many thanks for your time and effort. We have had a busy year, and I look forward to seeing as many Staff as possible on the Multi Training Weekends over the next few months.
