1. General: The Marine Cadets within Eastern Area continues to grow with a new detachment on trial at Worksop; there is however two detachments struggling and we shall be reviewing their viability shortly with overall cadet numbers improving within the area steady growth is the watchword. Cadet advancement have maintained a steady level with two advancements course held per year for both MC1 & Cpl Cadet Sgts course being held at National Level.
2. Adult Staffing & Advancement: Levels of staff is varied with some detachments well off while other struggle to recruit however the overall picture has improved and we hope to maintain a steady influx of new staff. Adult national advancement courses have been well attend by staff and advancement to all ranks has improved over the last 12 months and we have for the first time in a long time have staff waiting for advancement.
3. Qualifications: With the further introduction of adult qualifications by the SCC HQ in particular to Weapon training, BFSS, has placed more ever-increasing demands for time on the adult members of staff, however the adults in Eastern area have responded well to the ever increasing demands and have attended BFSS courses and the planned WTi course as well as attending both Easter and Annual Camps and other SQ or multi training weekend..
4. 50th Anniversary Camp: This year was the 50th anniversary of the Marine cadet section of the Sea Cadet Corps and was held at Longmoor training camp it was a great successes with over 100 cadets and 30 staff from Eastern area taking part, X Ray Company was one off the biggest there and the staff made a very large contribution to the overall success of the camp in particular a BZ goes to all whom give up additional time from Eastern area to help on the advance party. Cadets from Malta came and for the first time joined X Company, Special dispensation was give by the SRMO to allow three cadets to take the Cpls and Sgt advancement board with two passing for Cpl and for the first time ever a Cadet Sgt.
5. Awards: This year Eastern Area was fortunate in wining the following National awards Sgt S Marsland SCC the McCarroll trophy St Albans MCD the SRMO, s Most Improved detachment award. Lincoln MCD came a credible second in the Gibraltar Cup Competition. In all another busy and a successful year for Eastern Area Marine Cadets.
