AREA STAFF OFFICER SEAMANSHIP

1.
INSTRUCTOR STATUS: To date, in the Eastern Area, my records show 53 Instructors, 16 Advanced Instructors and 19 Examiners, a total of 88
personnel.  There are 14 Units within the Area who do not have a qualified Seamanship Instructor on their books.

2.
INSTRUCTOR REVALIDATION:  All Instructors/Examiners are reminded that they must revalidate every 3 years (TI's Chapter 4 - 0468).  To
revalidate simply forward Seamanship Log Book, fully filled in and signed, with stamped addressed envelope to ASO (SEA) (E).  New style Log Books will be issued on revalidation.  My records show that over 60% of Instructors/Examiners need to revalidate over the next 12 months.  Don't get caught out at your Unit's RNI.

3.
CADET STATUS: There is no requirement for Seamanship Instructors to run Cadet Courses within their Units', however, there is a requirement for a copy of Form SCC T7 (SM) to be forwarded to ASO (SEA) (E) for monitoring purposes.  To date, for 2005, I have received the following: 61 x Seamanship 3rd Class, 15 x Seamanship 2nd Class, 6 x Seamanship 1st Class, and 5 x Chartwork 1st Class.  Total 87.

4.
COURSES 2004/05: Courses in 2004/05 were successfully run at
Nottingham and Beckingham.

5.
COURSES 2005/06: It is planned for Adult Seamanship Basic Courses to be run at Beckingham again next year.  If any District within the Area wishes me to run Adult Seamanship Qualifying Courses in 2006 please contact me as soon as possible before my calendar is booked.
