Area Courses This Year

April/May PT Training Weekends                   - Aptitude/Acquaint
                                                                      - PT3/PrePT2/Pre PT1

November PT Training weekend                     - Aptitude/Acquaint
                                                                       - PT3/Pre PT2/Pre PT1

The April/May courses were well attended by Aptitude and PT3 qualifiers; however there was little
response to the Pre PT2 and Pre PT1 Training. Cadets in our Area are not progressing beyond PT3; ASO (PT&S)  would urge CO's to encourage their cadets to continue their development in the branch and to attend Pre-PT1/PT2 Course and then on to National Courses. The November course is yet to run.

Adults Re-entering the Branch

ASO (PT&S) is trying to increase the number of Adult PTI's in the Area, if any Instructor who has
previously held a PT qualification would like to start again they would be most welcome. The first step is to attend an Area Training weekend for assessment. This will bring the Instructor up to date and
assess weather a National Course would be advisable.  There are regular developments to how and what the PT Branch train, it is vital that all PTI's should attend a National Course as an Instructor at
LEAST once every three years.

Adult PT Dress Regulations

Instructors are reminded that PT whites are only to be worn by Qualified PTI's. Instructors with other qualifications, swimming, football, assault course instructors etc. are not permitted to wear PT white, badged or otherwise. Qualified Adult PTI's should attend sport events in the correct rig, for information contact the ASO (PT&S)

PT On Courses

When a course is being run and Physical Training is going to be included it is advisable to have a PTI present, this includes Marine Cadet training. Please contact ASO (PT&S) with any requirements that you might need for your courses and she will endeavour to attend or send another PTI. Please note that at the present time there are only three Instructors able to work unsupervised (Basic Instructors must be supervised with some activities). PT would include Timed Run's, circuit training, and some team games. For advice contact ASO (PT&S).

Display Training

With the success at IFOS and the increase in the interest of PT Displays, Units are starting to deliver training in Club Swinging, Horn Pipe and Skip Jump. It is important to note that there are set
standards and established training patterns to be followed. If you are looking to put on a display (Club Swinging, Horn Pipe, Skip Jump or Vaulting) please seek ASO (PT&S)'s advice before commencing. ASO (PT&S)  will offer support and training to your staff undertaking these duties within the Unit.  A
national standard for display training was established during the National PT course this year and the ASO (PT&S)s' from each Area are working toward establishing safer practices.

Thank you to all those who attended and supported the PT Display at IFOS, apart from two cadets all the High Box team came from Eastern Area. It has also been a good response for the Trafalgar
displays

Aims and Objectives

Each Unit to have at least one Adult trained to Adult Basic
Each District to have at least two Intermediate Instructor
Increase the number of PT2 and PT1 cadets in the area
Consider other sporting activities - the busy calendar permitting

Conclusion

The PT branch is continuing to grow and develop in Eastern Area, next year I hope to run 4 courses, two in the North of the Area and two in the south of the Area. New venues are being explored and will hopefully accommodate training. It is fair to say that the weekends will not be exclusively for North or South but offer some flexibility to Cadets and Instructors who find travel difficult.

ASO (PT&S) intends to get around to more Units this coming year and offer support where requested, if you have Unit or District courses and would like to include PT please contact ASO (PT&S)  for
advice.

ASO (PT&S) would like to thank all those who have supported the PT training this year, a special thanks to Lt (SCC) D Glanville RNR and her Team at Hull for there support in the Area weekends.
