AREA STAFF OFFICER JUNIORS
Although very newly appointed to this post I am able to reflect on events of the past year and the future of the 'little people' with boundless energy and a million questions, who feed the senior section with part trained enthusiastic cadets.
I attended both the National Junior Summer Camps (this year held at SCTC Inskip) where just over 100 juniors took part in a very diverse range of activities. The first week achieved Heart Start certificates, whereas the second week included a basic ET badge. (The food they cooked was tasted by HQST (JSC) and I understand she has fully recovered now!) Both weeks were rounded off with an "It's a Knockout" where even the visitors from HQ were 'drowned' and a Cowboys and Indians themed BBQ for tea. The week was fast paced, physically demanding, but very rewarding. I would love to work with more staff from Eastern Area on next year's camps.
For the future I am putting together a Junior Sea Cadet Instructors Course for the February MTWE next year. The content will reflect on the Part 1 training syllabus being designed to be absorbed into projects where learning becomes masked. This will serve not only to slow down juniors, but allow them to maintain motivations and enthusiasm.
I look forward to working with you all and remain only a phone call away.
