AREA STAFF OFFICER FIRST AID

1. During the past year we have maintained the momentum in terms of courses held at Area, District and Unit level, with courses being run in all parts of the Area.

2. Class 3 Courses continue to be popular with the younger Cadets, which then encourages them to go on to Class 2 and, hopefully when old enough, to Class 1.

3. Following successful negotiation with the RYA, the Sea Cadet Class 2 First Aid Course is now recognised by the RYA for those members of Staff who need a First Aid qualification for sailing and it will no longer be necessary to do a separate RYA Course.

4. A First Aid Teachers Course will shortly be held for those Staff members who would like to be able to instruct Class 3 First Aid in their Units and
eventually, if they so wish, attend the Instructor/Assessors Course at Keogh Barracks.

5. FAAW (Class 1) Certificates are now being issued by the Institute of Naval Medicine very rapidly.  Following the last course held at HMS RALEIGH in
September, the successful students received their Certificates less than three weeks after completion of the course.
